In response to the theme of shifting borders, Marie Sommer decided to develop a project about Yugoslavia, a country that broke apart during the last decade of the twentieth century although its name was not officially abolished until Serbia and Montenegro were partitioned in 2003. This project is therefore about the dissolution of a territory – as a reality that is at once symbolic, legal, administrative and political – and also (fatally) about the disintegration of an image, to the extent that a country is also made up of a constellation of images, like an imaginary territory.
